I was born on September 11, 1962 in Leonardtown, Maryland. I began
enjoying the outdoors at an early age, fishing with my Dad, Joe Jones, Jr. and Grandfather, Joe Jones, Sr. I also spent many hours in the woods hunting with my Dad on the
family farm.
In 1980, I graduated from Ryken High School, a private Catholic School
in
Leonardtown, Maryland. Immediately after graduation I applied for and was accepted into the Maryland State
Police Cadet Program. In 1983 I entered the Maryland State Police Academy in Pikesville, Maryland to fulfill a dream of becoming a Maryland State Trooper. I was initially
a uniformed State Trooper assigned to road patrol duties at various barracks in the state.
In 1986 I was transferred to the Narcotics Division as an Undercover
Detective. As an Undercover Detective I undertook various roles, such as a college student at the University of Maryland and a biker. After being injured in the line of
duty I was forced to retire in December of 1992 at the rank of Corporal.
I then founded Blackhawk Investigations, Inc. a Private Investigative
and Security Guard Company. At Blackhawk we conducted investigations throughout the United States and other countries. We also provided Security Guards for many
commercial U.S. and local Government agencies, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Ravens Stadium at Camden Yards, Fed-Ex Field home of the Washington Redskins, and the Bowie
Baysox (AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles).
With several hundred employees I sold Blackhawk in 1998 to pursue
another dream of becoming a Professional Bass Angler. I currently compete in the Everstart and B.A.S.S. Tournament Trials and several local tournaments when time permits.
In 2003 I was elected to a two-year term as Second Vice-President of the Maryland Bass Federation. As Second Vice-President I am responsible for the Youth Clubs, Casting
Kids and Press Releases. I also write feature outdoor articles on a regular basis for Gary Yamamoto’s Inside Line Magazine, The Sportsman’s Magazine, The Federation
Update, National Bass, and provide fishing reports for Jim Drake’s Reel Line Outdoor Column. I also conduct seminars and make personal appearances throughout the country.
